At some point in time, you have probably heard me talking about an illustrated novel that I'm working on. Many of the world building for it can be found in all of my art books too!
Today I'm going to answer two questions that I get asked a lot about the project:
1. What is an illustrated novel? 2. And why I think you're going to love it!
So what IS an illustrated novel?
An illustrated novel is a chapter book (a regular novel) with images in it.
Since I’m an illustrator as well as an author, I wanted to use this opportunity not only to tell a story through words but also allow you to be immersed in the narrative through imagery.
Along with the full-length novel, which is about 78,000 words, I’ve enhanced the world with dozens of illustrations.
At 280pages this novel is bursting with story, images, and world-building! There are full-page spreads, small vignettes and a variety of illustrations in between throughout the book. I counted it up and there is almost an illustration every or every-other spread. That’s a lot!
Each chapter also begins with a new unique pattern designed around the world. If you want to go even deeper into the art for this project, along with the book I also plan to include an additional world-building sketchbook as well for certain Kickstarter tiers.
Why do I think you'll love this book?
Because you like my art and I've put the heart of what inspires my art into this story and illustrations - the adventure, friendship, a love for the natural world (real and imagined), courage and bravery in the face of difficult decisions and so much more are all tied up in the pages of this novel.
This book is for you if:
You love reading adventure and fantasy
Enjoy my art and would like to see it in a longer narrative form
Would like to see a less-explored fantasy setting in a lush tropical world
I hope you have a great rest of your week and thank you again for supporting my work!
More Art Books Incoming! + An Illustrated Novel

It's been a minute since you heard from me, and I wanted to let you know are not forgotten! I am still making my art books. You may know I have also been working on a full-fledged illustrated novel called Naiya and the Foxdragon. If you haven't, you can read more about it here.
Due to the sheer size of this project, I have decided to postpone work on this year's art book until after I Kickstart Naiya and the Foxdragon on February 25th. This is because I have a very small team (just me and sometimes Anson and my new assistant) and I want to keep things simple so fulfillment doesn't cross over. To keep you in the loop, I am estimating announcing the Kickstarter for the next art book this coming May.
Thanks so much! I look forward to creating this next project together!

Just a quick update to let you know that your books and pins are on the way! Yay!
It is such a wonderful joy to see so many familiar names on the shipping labels. I appreciate each and everyone of you for supporting my work. Thank you!
If you're one the few that hasn't filled out your Backerkit survey please do so I can get your pledges to you.
If you're not already apart of my newsletter, sign up here to stay in the loop about my next upcoming project, "Naiya and the Foxdragon", an illustrated novel coming to Kickstarter later this year.
Until our next project together, soon!

Hi wonderful backers!
Things are running along smoothly and month ahead of schedule. Yay!
I've set things up with BackerKit so you should be expecting an email survey soon. This survey will allow you to be able to customize your add-ons as well as purchase more. There are a few limited edition pins remaining that you can grab through your survey as well as more books, prints etc.
I plan to begin shipping on Monday, the 11th, as many of the orders as I can. Any orders that are outstanding or require extra work I will move to after I get back from Emerald City Comic Con on Monday the 18th.
I've also opened up a pre-order store for a limited time if you have friends or family that didn't make it in for the live project this is a great place to get a book at a discount. **If you are a backer and would like any of the items in the pre-order store they will be available to you through your survey along with your pledge and you won't have to pay the additional base cost of shipping a separate package.
Thank you again for helping to make this book a reality! I look forward to getting them to you soon!

We are in the home stretch and I want to send a heartfelt thank you to everyone that has backed this project so far. Thank you so very much!
It is incredibly rewarding to see so many excited to receive a book and pin of my work!
A few updates:
This morning I am sending off the files early for print. This is a bit abnormal for Kickstarter projects like this since I will not receive the Kickstarter funds until 2 weeks from now. I'm eager to get things started, to have my test prints in hand, and have put aside funds to do so just for you!
My Foxdragon illustrated Novel launches later this year in May here on Kickstarter so I want to be sure I have this project wrapped up promptly for you before we move onto the next thing!
I'll be setting up Backerkit to import your pledges and take any last minute add-on orders. This is the first time that I've used Backerkit but I've already been in touch with the awesome people there and feel great about using them to streamline the fulfillment process.
Thank you again and if you haven't already, be sure to share this project with your friends and family. A share goes a long way!
